Eighth Grade Curriculum

Christian Lightbearers
The goal of this class is for the students to develop their knowledge of the Bible and to apply biblical knowledge to one's life experiences. Also to study all that is contained in a worldview, such as philosophy and ethics, and study God's effects on the Christian worldview.

Earth Science
In Earth Science, they study many of the earth's phenomena as well as how and why they happen. As scientists in training, they will be doing many investigations and experiments.

Math
This course is designed to aid students to become proficient in pre-algebra skills. Topics will include operations on rational numbers, solving multi-step algebraic equations, graphing on the coordinate plane, analyzing and interpreting statistics and graphs, and problem solving using geometric principles.

Algebra I
This course is 9th grade algebra open to advanced 8th graders. In this course students will study properties of equations, simplifying polynomials, simplifying rational expressions and radicals, solving and graphing linear equations, inequalities, systems of equations and quadratic equations, and solving application word problems.

World Studies II
In World Studies II, students will learn about key political, economic, military, religious, and geographical forces that shaped our world's history. They will also learn about western civilization and culture, and learn about them from different perspectives, and understand the relationship between the various cultures of western civilization.

English
A challenging and enriching environment where one can master basic grammar skills used for writing, reading, and life as well as explore a variety of authors and genres.

Spanish
The Spanish classes at FRCS are a K-12.  The emphasis in 8th grade Spanish is to improve speaking and listening skills learned in grades 1-7.  The students ask and answer questions, give short presentations and develop listening skills that allow them to understand native speakers.  Writing and reading are also included in the course.

Computer Applications
Students learn how to use some of the Microsoft applications. They will be able to use Microsoft Word for word processing, Microsoft Excel for spreadsheets, Microsoft PowerPoint to make professional slide shows, and Microsoft Publisher, to be able to make publications such as newsletters and pamphlets.

Exploration
Eighth Grade Exploration is a semester-long project where the students select a topic. Each year is a different area. Either Space, Systems, or Earth Science. They must have multiple sources including interviews and community resources. They must compile their work into a project by creating a model, story, or any project approved by the teacher. Then they present their speech to an audience with a visual and to a panel of teacher's to be graded.
