Celebrating Literacy
The topic for discussion was an idea to bring more Christian literature into our Library/Media Center. We believe that we have a responsibility to make sure our students have ample Christian books to read and enjoy. To that end, we discussed a book program to honor our students on their birthdays. Parents could donate a small amount of money to the library to honor their child on their birthday. The media center specialist and Mrs. Holleman would then purchase a Christian book for that child, place a dedication inside the book (including the child's name, birthdate, and date of dedication), and present it to the student at weekly chapel, the week of their birthday. The student would then be the first child to "borrow" the book from the library, and then it would enter into regular circulation.
We believe this would provide a wonderful way to honor our students on their birthdays, grow our circulation of Christian books, and bless the family and FRCS with a lasting gift to the school. Details will be forthcoming for the 2008-2009 school year.

Summer Classes and Camps
The topic for discussion this month was Summer Classes and Camps. There was great dialogue and discussion with five parents and four staff members. Mr. Montoro, who oversees the summer program, spoke to the parents. He would like to hold Summer Classes and Camps for the first two to three weeks after school is let out for the summer (June 9 through June 20 or 27). He will coordinate schedules with the Athletic department. Many ideas for classes came from the parents’ interest:
Sign Language, Writing Workshop, Christian Martial Arts, Science related classes, Theater, Debate, Robotics, Keyboarding, Art, Gymnastics, Sports classes, Jump rope, Digital Media, Self Defense, Businesses classes, Videography, Dance, Cheerleading, Crime Scene Investigation, Knitting, Sewing, and Scrap Booking.
If you, or someone you know, would be interested in teaching one of these classes or have an idea of your own, please contact Mr. Montoro or Mrs. Holleman.
